EXILE occupies Books & Books Coral Gables

EXILE Books will take residence at Books & Books, Coral Gables October 15 - November 20, 2014. EXILE will occupy the west wing of the store, featuring titles that focus on the radical history and legacy of artist’s books. In partnership with Printed Matter, Inc., EXILE’S inventory will also represent a wide variety of artist’s books and related publications that demonstrate how these works are conceived of as unique art pieces in their own right, functioning as a powerful communicative force between artist and audience.

A store within a store, EXILE at Books & Books will create a unique gathering place that encourages the public to explore printed matter. EXILE will serve as a vehicle of introduction to artist's books through a series of weekly talks moderated by Keeley, a former manager of Printed Matter, Inc. and curatorial assistant to Yoko Ono.

The program will kick off on October 15th at 8:00 pm with Max Schumann, Executive Director of Printed Matter, Inc. who will discuss the possibilities of the artist’s book. On October 23rd at 8:00 pm Ruth and Marvin Sackner will next discuss the “Six from the Sixties: Chopin, Cobbing, Finlay, Furnival, Houedard, Phillips”. The following week, Gean Moreno will bring [Name] Publications onboard on October 30th at 8:00 pm. On November 7th at 8:00 pm, artist Adler Guerrier will speak about his PAMM exhibition and upcoming artist’s publication. Finally, Cristina Favretto, Head of Special Collections at the University of Miami, will close out the programming in conversation with Amanda Keeley on November 13th at 8:00 pm.

EXILE will then embark to its next location at the Miami Book Fair International, where it will introduce the all new Artist’s Book Lounge. After EXILE’s deinstallation at Books & Books, the room and inventory will return to their original state; in its place, a special shelf dedicated to EXILE will remain.
