History is Not Mine by Mounir Fatima

"Published on the occasion of the 10th Rencontres de Bamako, Biennale Africaine de la Photographie, Mounir Fatmi's History is not mine illustrates the artist's desire to evade indoctrination through his 2013 video of the same name. The title plays on the name of a 2012 group exhibition held in Toulouse, History is Mine, in which his Technologia, a video that combined verses of the Koran with elements inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s Rotoreliefs, was removed from view following violence and rioting.  The immediate subject of Fatmi’s History is not mine is censorship, meaning, and its deformation by power.
