EXILE @ BFI: Books Fuel Ideas
December 5, 2014 – February 5, 2015
Opening reception: Friday, December 5th, 6-9pm
Please join us Friday, December 5th at Bas Fisher Invitational Gallery from 6 to 9 pm for the opening night of Books Fuel Ideas, featuring artists Lizzi Bougatsos, Eve Fowler, and Sam Gordon. The exhibition, curated by Amanda Keeley and Katerina Llanes in collaboration with EXILE Books, will explore the relationship between archive and the ephemeral. For the opening night Keeley has created a frozen archival bookcase that will liquefy throughout the evening, accompanied by a sound composition by Bougatsos.
Sam Gordon will recreate his Printed Matter storefront collaboration with Eve Fowler at Bas Fisher Invitational using a new selection of ephemeral posters. Fowler will simultaneously activate Downtown Miami bus shelters with her public billboard project “the difference is spreading,” featuring quotes by Gertrude Stein. Books Fuel Ideas will also mark the release of Bougatsos’ first artist’s book: Her Perfume Tears. This first co-publication between Boo-Hooray and EXILE Editions contains Bougatsos’ photos, writings and lyrics. EXILE Books will feature Her Perfume Tears alongside an array of titles that consider the exhibition’s theme.
