Give Miami Day is back!

Dear Friends,

As the founder of the not-for-profit EXILE Books, I am writing to extend my appreciation for your generosity. Your support means a great deal to me personally as well as to our artists who help maintain our programming and community outreach. On November 19, Give Miami Day will again be upon us and I’m reaching out today to ask for your support. As 2020 draws to a close, we have come together to support our community and look forward to brighter days ahead.

Your contribution, especially as part of Give Miami Day, makes a significant difference to EXILE Books. A $100 dollar donation pays the stipend for an artist to make a new zine, $250 pays for art supplies for our youth programs, $500 pays our virtual artist in residence to produce an online workshop, and $1000 will pay honorariums to artists for our upcoming newspaper broadside artworks.

For the first time, an Early Giving period will take place from November 16th to 18th. The Give Miami Day portal will be open for donations during these days leading up to the 24-hour event on the 19th for increased flexibility for donors.

Despite Covid, EXILE Books has continued with projects that have stretched us as artists and expanded our contribution to an ever-widening community.

  • EXILE had to cancel our free annual Miami Zine Fair at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex which usually features 120+ exhibitors and attracts over 6000 people. We created a new online platform “pool” where creatives are invited to share their self-published works. A selection of these will be published by EXILE and included in our upcoming Zine Fair mail order subscription service which will bring the festival safely to your doorstep.
  • In 2021, we are launching a new newspaper broadside project where a juried selection of local artists, designers, and illustrators will be invited to create a newsprint artwork. Artists will receive an honorarium, EXILE will print an edition of 1000, and the works will be distributed for free in retro newspaper vending machines throughout Miami.

Now more than ever I feel the power of art brings hope, connection, and purpose into our lives. Contributions like yours keep artistic endeavors flourishing during this pandemic and beyond. Follow EXILE’s progress and see how your donation supports and encourages our local creative community.

Warm regards,

Amanda
